Plano Police reached out Saturday to spread the word about the fastest-growing crime in the nation.
The North Texas Crime Prevention Association, Plano Police Department and more than 25 law enforcement and government agencies organized a “SCAM JAM” event to educate the community about crime prevention, most notably Internet safety.
Some of the topics discussed included protecting children from sexual predators, Internet safety, identity theft, mortgage fraud and healthcare fraud.
Tammy Snider, president of the NTCPA and Plano crime prevention officer, said these type crimes affect 10 million people a year.
